Andale $$ - Central South - Olas Altas 425. This casual restaurant is located above the popular bar of the same name. Consistently well-prepared food at surprisingly low prices is served in large portions. Entrees include so bucco, sirloin burger topped with cheese, shrimp, chicken, filet mignon. You will certainly feel at home here. This becomes quite a 'party place' about 9 p.m.! Tel: 223-0684, or 222-1054

Archie's Wok $$$ - Central South - Francisca Rodriguez 130. Provides cuisine influenced by the flavors of China, Thailand, and the philippines. Vegetarians can find a good variety of dishes to please them including the broccoli, tofu and cashew stir-fry cooked in a black bean and sherry sauce. They also have excellent ribs! Tel: 222-0411

Cafe de Olla $$ - Central South - Basilio Badilla.Truly good honest Mexican food, and plenty of it! plus value for money!! Friendly, jovial waiters add to the atmosphere, along with the strolling mariachis who entertain the diners. Cash only. Usually a long line to get into the small place. Tel: 223-1626

Cafe Frankfurt $$ - Central South - Basilio Badillo 300. Garden restaurant serving German and International cuisine. Excellent reviews in the local paper(s). Tel: 222-3403

Carlos O'Brians $$ - On the Malecon, Paseo Diaz Ordaz 786. The Vallarta branch of this restaurant/bar chain has a "jumping" atmosphere and a fun menu which includes BBQ ribs, fajitas, and dancing on the tables. Recently remodeled, still zany but popular! Tel: 222-1444

Chico's Paradise $$ - South of town on the road to Manzanillo. International cuisine. Refreshing Palapa by the Rio. Tel: 222-0747, or 223-0413.

Chiles! $$ - Central South - Pulpito122. BBQ Chicken, Hamburgers, Beef Dip etc. Has a great selection of "Hot Sauces". Food and service are very good. Tel: 223-0373

Cuates y Cuetes $$ - Central South. Right next door to the 'Sand Bar'. Located on the ever popular Los Muertos Beach, this place is another great place to watch the sun set or be seen or see the ongoing charades on the beach. Drinks inexpensive and the food is good. Tel: 223-2724

El Torito $$ - Central South - I.L. Vallarta 290. Great BBQ ribs or chicken and it doesn't end there! Also known for sports and some internet access. Open for lunch and dinner. Has internet terminals. Loud and wild at times. Tel: 222-3784

El Tucan $$- Central South - Basilio Badillo 245. Offering an extensive breakfast menu both Mexican and American, and also a mix of international and Mexican dishes for dinner. Tel: 223-0778

La Dolce Vita $$ - on the Malecon. Paseo Diaz Ordaz 674. Frequented by locals and located on the Malecon, this restaurant has a lively European atmosphere. Serves delicious pizzas, pastas made on the premises and antipasto. Tel: 222-3852

La Palapa $$ - Central South - Calle Pulpito 103, and Playa Los Muertos. Serving fine gourmet Mexican dishes. Live music nightly. Tel: 222-5225

The Pancake House $ - Central South- Basilio Badillo 289. One of the most popular breakfast places in town. Extensive menu of over 70 delicious breakfast selections. Pancakes, waffles, French Toast and much more. Tel: 222-6272

Papaya 3 $ - Central - Abasolo 169. Specializing in natural and vegetarian breakfast, lunch and dinner. Tel: 222-0303

No Name Cafe $$ - on the Malecon. This is one of the largest sports bars south of the border, serving a large selection of American favorites, i.e., spaghetti, hamburgers, and the "best ribs" in town. A fun place but drinks are expensive after 6 p.m.. Tel: 223-3508
